1999, Bronx River, NY: Amadou Diallo, an immigrant from Senegal, dies at 19 of the 41 bullets fired by the Street Crime Unit while put his hand in his pocket, pulled out his wallet. Created in the '70s, this unit was intended to halt the rise of crime in NYC and specifically in the Bronx and Queens. Known for his strong-arm methods, the squadron has over a thirty official blunders since its inception. The unit was disbanded in 2002 following the bad publicity from the Diallo case. None of the defendants has been indicted for this blunder. Today, the Patrol Borough took over their role.
